Abydos is considered the lord among the temples of Ancient Egypt.

From both a religious and mythological point of view, as well as an artistic one — representing the most refined artistic school Egypt ever developed — it is the pilgrimage destination par excellence in Ancient Egypt, a place of worship dedicated to Osiris, king of the dead.

Commissioned by Seti I, this vast temple preserves within it several halls dedicated to other deities, likely intended to strongly reaffirm polytheism after the reign of the heretic Akhenaton.

Of particular interest is the wall on which the “List of the Kings” is carved — an inscription naming 76 pharaohs from Menes to Seti I — a document of exceptional importance for archaeologists, not only for the names included, but also for those omitted.
