At Dendera we visit the temple dating to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, dedicated to Hathor — goddess of love, beauty, music and poetry, identified by the Greeks with Aphrodite.
The richly decorated capitals of the columns, carved with the four-faced image of the goddess, are among the most striking features of the sanctuary. On a terrace chamber of the temple was once displayed the famous Zodiac of Dendera — now preserved at the Louvre in Paris— a bas-relief depicting the celestial vault and its constellations.
