Visit to the Temple of Hathor

At Dendera, the temple dates back to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods and is dedicated to Hathor (Aphrodite for the Greeks).

The Temple of Hathor

At Dendera we visit the temple dating to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, dedicated to Hathor — goddess of love, beauty, music and poetry, identified by the Greeks with Aphrodite.

The richly decorated capitals of the columns, carved with the four-faced image of the goddess, are among the most striking features of the sanctuary. On a terrace chamber of the temple was once displayed the famous Zodiac of Dendera — now preserved at the Louvre in Paris— a bas-relief depicting the celestial vault and its constellations.
