The Valley of the Kings, which contains about 60 burials dating back to the New Kingdom.

These tombs were designed to house the mummies of the pharaohs who after death were destined to live an eternal life in the afterlife; for this reason the funerary equipment was composed of objects useful to the pharaoh himself and small statuettes that were meant to replace him in the more humble tasks.

Plundered over the course of 2,500 years, when archaeologists began excavations in the 1800s they found very little, which is why the discovery of Tutankhamun’s funerary equipment by Carter caused such great sensation.

This discovery influenced the entire world, politics and Egyptology, and the pharaoh who rested there became the most famous of all time.
